Wilma Louise Hill

Wilma Louise Hill, 81, of Chattanooga, transitioned peacefully on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, in a local healthcare facility. She was born on January 24, 1945, in Chattanooga, Tennessee to evangelist Ella K. and John Henry Thornton Sr. Wilma was educated in the Chattanooga School System graduating from Howard High School. She married Otis Hill, the love of her life, in January 1972. They shared 49 years of love and laughter. Together they reared 3 children, Angela, Cedric and Otisha. Wilma was employed by Blue Cross Blue Shield as a Customer Service Representative for 21 years. She attended Church of God of Prophecy for many years and later Mount Sinai Missionary Church. Wilma loved going to church and her favorite song was “I Won’t Complain”. No matter how sick or tired she never complained. If asked how she was doing, she always said, “I’m Fine” and she was in her faith in God. Wilma loved her family, music and shopping with her sisters and later with her daughters. She was a pillar of strength to her family and often helped family and friends. She had the biggest smile. People often commented on her pretty smile and how it would light up the room. Wilma was preceded in death by her loving husband, Otis Floyd Hill Jr.; stepson, Vincent Hill; brother, Reverend John Thornton, Jr.; sisters, Earlene H, Tate, Ella Mae Black, Deloise E. Smith, and Gladys R Cofield. Wilma leaves behind to cherish her memory children, Angela (Anthony) Pillow of Murfreesboro, TN, Cedric Hill of Atlanta, GA, and Otisha (Fredrick) Hambrick of Chattanooga; sister, Brenda Amey of Chattanooga; sisters-in-law, Leslie Hill of Los Angeles, CA, Sarah Raines, and Clara Hill, both of Rome, GA; brother-in-law, David Hill of Carterville, GA; grandchildren, Jimmy D. Young of Lansing, MI, Angela Alford of Chattanooga, Christopher Young of Murfreesboro, Andrew Young of Lexington, KY, Matthew Young of McMinnville, TN, Duan Bush, Demetric (Mikia) Bush, Alondra Hill, and Deshun Hill all of Chattanooga; great-grandchildren, Tony Alford, Zyanne Alford, India Alford, Anthony Alford, Jr., Carter Young, Mya Young, August Bush, Ryder Bush, and Rayden Bush; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Wilma will lie-in-state on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, from 12-30-5:00 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Thursday, July 23, 2026, at 12:00 noon in the Chapel with Elder Kenardo Curry as the Eulogist. Burial in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
