Reginald Dwain Howell

Reginald “Reg” Dwain Howell, 65, of Chattanooga made his transition from this earthly life to eternal rest on Tuesday, January 24, 2023. Reginald, a loving son, exemplary brother, compassionate dad and the best of a friend, was born May 7, 1957 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. As the eldest child to his mother, Ms. Jimmie Howell and first grandchild to Mr. and Mrs. Willie and Ules Howell, Reginald quickly became the adored baby of the Howell family. The foremost nephew to his 9 aunts and uncles, the Howell clan was smitten with Reginald’s loving personality and youthful zest for life. “Train up a child in the way he should go, and even when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Reginald grew up watching his grandfather who, along with his mother, taught him the importance of a diligent work ethic. He would OFTEN share with his children how he’d “been working since the age of 14”, beginning to earn his own money at Willie’s Supermarket. As a teen he was no stranger to hard work that earned him his most dapper attire. Reginald (or “Reg”/”Reggie” as his friends called him) loved putting together trendsetting outfits that he was revered for, earning him the title of best dressed in junior high school. While his far-out fashion sense and good looks (earning him the title “Class Beau” of the 1975 Riverside High senior class) made him stick out, it was his infectious personality, leadership (serving as VP of DECA) and respect for those around him that made him “the man” in high school and a life-long friend to so many. After high school, Reginald pursued higher learning and earned his associates degree at McKenzie College. Traveling with his grandparents is how Reginald first found his love for travel. He began exploring the US on cross country trips as a child. He would comment that this world is bigger than what’s around him and he made a point to see it! In his adulthood, Reginald explored the Caribbean and Mexico numerous times, taking in Haiti, Jamaica, Cayman, Cozumel, the Bahamas and Cancun to name a few. He also traveled to Europe, touring England, Switzerland and The Netherlands, making friends, of course, across the world. As an adult, Reginald understood that to play hard and travel, you had to working hard. He dedicated the majority of his career to ADM (20 years) while taking on numerous entrepreneurial pursuits until retiring from Flower’s Bakery. While Reginald’s work afforded him the best in life, family meant the world to him and ranked as priority #1. Reginald taught his children, An’Tuan and London, to work hard (surprise!), act as “productive citizens” and experience life. He was admired as the “cool dad” that everyone knew. Often taking a gang of kids on his “Snowdog” truck rides, he’d race around the neighborhood with a pile of children in the back of his red GMC pick-up truck. Hosting pool parties and backyard campouts, Reginald enjoyed being a father. As a family man, son, nephew and brother, he went above and beyond to make his family feel loved and individually special. Reginald had a way of making everyone feel included and important. He found the light in ALL situations (even when his beloved Titan’s lost) and left an impression with all that met him. By giving his life to Christ, he lived purposefully. With determination, exploration, lots of laughter, love and an open-heart Reginald was and is God’s Titan. Reginald was preceded by his grandparents, Willie and Ethel Howell; uncles, James Howell, Willie (Lee) Howell and John Howell; aunts, Nancy Luster, Ruby Reese and Linda Keith. He leaves his legacy of love to his mother, Jimmie Howell; children, An’Tuan Dwain Howell and London Rajé (Sherman) Howell; brother, Renodus Delaney (Shannon) Newman; sister, Rosalyn Farmer; granddaughter, Charlí Dawn Joseph; aunts, Jeanette Howell and Patricia Howell; uncle, Eddie Howell; niece, Donyell Farmer; nephews, Christian (Audrey) Newman, Mario Smith, and Shane Smith; great-nephews, LeJay Farmer and Cameron Smith; great-niece, Lundyn Daniel; special friend, Melanie Carter; a host of cousins and friends.
