Mark A. Tyson, Sr. entered the world on January 2, 1961, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and exited the world on March 20, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering strength. He was the beloved son of Charles L. Tyson (Papa Chuck) and Helen Elaine Anderson. Mark was a man defined by his resilience, independence, and deep love for the people around him. He proudly served in the United States Army for three years, with time spent at Fort Lee and Fort Knox. Determined to grow and better himself, he taught himself Spanish, proof of his self-motivation and drive. In his twenties, Mark lived in Chicago with his father, a city he loved deeply and represented proudly throughout his life. His passion for Chicago sports, especially the Bears and Bulls, was unmatched. He later returned to Indiana, where he began building his family, before ultimately settling in Chattanooga, Tennessee in 2007. There, he planted roots, purchased his home, and created a life filled with love, laughter, and lasting memories. Mark dedicated 19 years of hard work to Lock Joint Tube Tennessee, as a Quality Control Technician, demonstrating a strong work ethic and commitment to providing for his family. He was not only hardworking but also incredibly creative—he enjoyed decorating his home, playing his guitar, working on hands-on projects like building his deck, and adding his personal touch to everything around him. Known by many nicknames— “Tony,” “T-wave,” “Uncle Pidge,” “8-Ball,” “Mark Anthony,” and most recently “Ol Skool”—Mark had a personality that could not be ignored. He was naturally funny, quick-witted, and always ready with a joke that could light up any room. He had a gift for bringing people together, treating everyone with the same respect, kindness, and authenticity. To know him was to feel seen, welcomed, and valued. Above all, Mark loved his family and friends deeply. He cherished spending time with them, whether it was laughing, telling stories, or simply being present. His love was genuine, his loyalty was strong, and his impact on those around him will never be forgotten. Music was also a big part of his life, especially old school favorites that reflected his spirit and soul. Mark A. Tyson, Sr. will be remembered for his humor, his hardworking nature, his creativity, and the unconditional love he gave so freely. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. Mark was preceded in death by his father, Charles, his mother, Helen, and brothers, Charles and Terrance. Mark is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth; children, Mark Jr., Kadeen, Shon, and Markeela; grandchildren, Mark III and Shon Jr.; other mom, Christine; siblings, Michael (Catherine), ETonia, Dennis, Anthony, Courtney (Annie), Damia (James), Shannon (Sheila), Dawanna (Adrian), and Shannai (John); his loyal dog, Rocky and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mark will lie-in-state on Saturday, March 28, 2026, from 10-1 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. There will be no funeral service here.
