Dorothy A. Pride

Dorothy “Beautiful” Pride, 103 Centenarian was born in Denmark, Tennessee on August 26, 1922, to the late William Porter, Sr., and Clara Louise Williamson. She is the sixth child of fourteen children. She met her husband, the late, Reverend William M. Pride, II while attending Lane College in Jackson, Tennessee. They were blessed with 11 children. Dorothy joined Phillips Temple C.M.E. Church in 1945 and has served as a member of the Choir, Sunday School Department, Vacation Bible School, Leader of the Rossie T. Hollis Children’s Circle and as Devotion Leader for Stewardess Board II. In addition, she served as President and Vice-President of the Missionary Society and Treasurer of the Stewardess Board. She was the First Lady during Rev. Pride’s tenure for six churches. She was recently honored at Hamlett Chapel C.M.E. Church on February 22, 2026, as one of three Fruit of the Spirit Matriarch Awardees. Dorothy served in many positions in support of children and youth. She worked as a Teacher’s Assistant in the Chattanooga Public School System, Transportation Aide, Group Leader of the Second-Grade Class at Founder’s House of the Girls Club and as an In-Store Demonstrator for the BI-LO Grocery Stores. Dorothy had a keen sense of humor. She was an avid reader, adventurous, ambitious and always seeking to learn. Even at the age of 99, she completed the computer course Tech Goes Home Digital. She had a Face Book account and kept up with the latest technical things from her Alexa Device. She enjoyed gardening, watching her favorite TV Show, “Wheel of Fortune”, spending time with her children, grandchildren, traveling, and attending her weekly meetings as a member of Widows Harvest Ministries. She enjoyed serving in her church and hearing her favorite songs, “The Lord is My Light and My Salvation”; “If I Can Help Somebody” and “Hold to God’s Unchanging Hand.” She was preceded in death by her parents; 12 siblings; husband of 64 years, Rev. William M. Pride, II; daughter, Clara Robinson; sons-in-law, Randall Pinkerton and Ronald Robinson. Mrs. Pride is survived by her 10 children, her devoted daughter and son who were always by her side, G. Ruth Pride and David Pride, Bettie (Clinton) Johnson, William (Virginia) Pride, John (Sylvia) Pride, Robert (Peggy) Pride, Bertram (Jojuan) Pride, Arneda (David, Jr.) Wilson, Rosetta Vashti (Walter) Laffittie, and Andrew (Lynn) Pride; sister, Helen Burt; 25 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Dorothy will lie-in-state on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 12 noon in the Chapel with Rev. Clintina J. Powell as the Eulogist.
