Doris Elizabeth Smith

Doris Elizabeth Smith was born on March 24, 1948, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, to the late Marshall Fears and Mary E. Lee. Doris was known for her warm heart, beautiful spirit, and the love she gave so freely to everyone around her. She was deeply devoted to her family and friends. Doris had a nurturing presence that brought comfort, peace, and strength to those who knew her. Doris was a respectable, faithful, understanding, and devoted wife to her husband of 48 years. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose love for family and faith remained at the center of her life. Doris attended Riverside High School in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and was a faithful member of Second Missionary Baptist Church until her health declined. She enjoyed life's simple pleasures such as reading, staying active to maintain a healthy lifestyle, traveling the world, and spending time with family. She found great joy in helping others prepare for new opportunities in life. Together with her daughter, Tuesday, they assisted some UTC graduates with job applications in their respective fields of study while working at the Belk Department Store for 41 years. Doris Elizabeth Smith will be remembered for her grace, resilience, and the unconditional love she shared so freely. Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy of faith, compassion, and service will forever remain in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her. Doris was preceded in death by her father, Marshall Fears; mother, Mary E. Lee; brothers, Noble Tolliver, Varnell Tolliver, Edward Lee, and Larry Lee; and sisters, Betty Tolliver, Shirley Vance, and Glenda Shropshire. Doris leaves to cherish her precious memories her loving husband, Robert Calvin Smith; son, Kenneth D. (Shaundra) Smith; daughters, Tuesday (John L.) Perry, Valerie Walker, Leslie Walker, and LaWanda Smith; sister, Ellen Lee of Chattanooga, TN; brothers, George (Sandra) Burell of Panama, FL, and Kevin L. Green of Hillsboro, TX. Doris also leaves behind 9 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever treasure her love, wisdom, kindness, and unforgettable spirit. Doris will lie-in-state on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Second Missionary Baptist Church. Funeral service will follow at 12:00 noon at the church with Reverend Dr. Ernest L. Reid, Jr. as the Eulogist. Burial in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
