Daniel J. Jackson-Gladden

Daniel Jalán Jackson-Gladden, affectionately known as “DeeJay” by his friends and family, was born on August 8, 2007 in Durham, North Carolina to his loving parents, James Gladden, Jr. and Danielle Jackson. Daniel’s journey through life was marked by his vibrant spirit and passion for a variety of interests. He graduated from Chattanooga Preparatory School (Chatt Prep) in May of 2025, where he made a name for himself as a determined and dedicated student—from the basketball court, to being a motivational speaker to his peers, and briefly on the football field. In August of 2025, Daniel attended Alabama A&M University on scholarship to pursue Business Administration. Beyond his academic pursuits and acknowledgements, Daniel had a deep love for fashion, entrepreneurship, a big heart and a vibrant smile that would light up the room. Daniel had no shy bone in his body, just a big people person who lived his family and friends—especially his siblings. Among those who preceded Daniel in death include his great-grandparents, Emetrius Harris and Marie C. Toney, Leonard Jackson, Jr., and Elizabeth Robinson-Jackson; uncle, Larry (Jay) Cunningham, all of Chattanooga. Cherishing his memories include his parents, James (Shakira) Gladden, Jr. and Danielle Jackson; grandparents, Juanna Jackson, Danny Toney, James and Kathryn Gladden, Sr.; sisters, Jada Gladden, Jade Gladden, and Nylah Smith; brothers, Josiah and Amiir Lawrence; uncles, Mark Gladden and Wendell (Lakisha) Gladden, all of Chattanooga, and Christopher Toney of California; aunts, Shanii Cunningham, Jameica (T) Gladden-Crowder, Shamika Toney, and Skye Grace Toney, all of Chattanooga, and Dannai Toney of California; close cousins, Ajuan “AJ” Fields, Xaviera Gladden, Ajani (Malik) Fields, Zipporian Patterson, Mark “Lil’ Mark” Gladden, Jr., Malachi Steele, Laia Cunningham, Camden Willis, all of Chattanooga. He also leaves a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends that love him. Daniel Jackson-Gladden’s memory will forever be cherished by his family, friends, and all who had the honor of knowing him. His legacy as a beloved son, brother, friend, and bold spirit and personality will continue to inspire those he touched. As we bid farewell to Daniel, we remember the warmth of his smile, the depth of his passions, and the love he shared with those around him. Rest in peace, DeeJay, and may your spirit live on in our hearts. Daniel will lie-in-state on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Mount Canaan Church, located at 4801 TN-58. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Bishop Timothy Ward as Eulogist. Burial in Lakewood Memory Gardens, East.
