Betty Raye Jackson

Betty Raye Jackson, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, November 9, 2025, surrounded by the family she cherished so deeply. She was born on May 27, 1941, in Birmingham, Alabama. Betty was the youngest child of the late, Freddie Harvey Eugene Jones, I and Lottie Beatrice Jones. She grew up alongside her siblings, Freddie Harvey Eugene Jones, II and Dorothy Washington of Los Angeles, California, forming bonds rooted in love, faith, and family. Betty was the devoted mother of three sons, Charles (Pamela) Pitts, Sr., Michael Pasley, and Emory Quinn Jackson. Her joy multiplied through her grandchildren, Charles, Jr. Chandler, Courtney, Michelle Raye, Antonio Raye, Destiny Raye, Jeffery, Jordan, Devontay, Donovan, and Deondre; precious great-grandchildren, Yael, Cameron, Emilia, and Carter. She loved them all deeply, and the time she spent with them brought tremendous joy and purpose to her life. Her family was her heart, and each generation carried a special place in her spirit. Betty graduated from A. H. Parker High School Class of 1958 in Birmingham, Alabama. After high school, she began a new chapter and relocated to Chattanooga, Tennessee, where she built a meaningful life anchored in faith, community, and unwavering love for her family. Over the years, Betty worked at Mckee Bakery, Brach Candy, and within the Hamilton County School System. From a young age, Betty accepted Christ as her Savior and committed her life to His service. She was a devoted and faithful member of Pilgrim Rock Baptist Church, where she served joyfully as an usher and lifted her beautiful voice in the choir. Her faith was not merely spoken but lived – shown daily through her generosity, quiet strength, and compassion toward everyone she met. For more than 50 years, Betty made her home in the Shepherd community, where she became affectionately known as one of the “Mothers of Shepherd”. Her home was a place of warmth and welcome – a refuge where family, friends, and neighbors gathered for comfort, conversations, and more often than not, a plate of her made from scratch home cooked meals or a slice of her freshly baked cakes and pies. Her porch became a beloved gathering place for laughter, storytelling, and encouragement. She leaves to forever cherish her memories her loving family, including her sons; daughter-in-law; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; sister; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended-in-laws, and countless friends who were touched by her kindness and will carry her memory forward with honor. Betty Raye Jackson lived a life of love, faith, and generosity. Her legacy will forever shine in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. Betty will lie-in-state on Monday, November 24, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 12:30 p.m. in the Chapel with Pastor Jerry Burse as the Eulogist. Burial in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
